Louie Giglio

Louie Giglio was born in 1958 and grew up in a Christian home in Atlanta, Georgia. One morning at 2:00 a.m., during his freshman year at Georgia State University in 1977, he decided to follow Christ instead of the party life. That conscious decision led him to become one of the architects of the modern worship style geared towards young people with its emphasis on informal attire, expressive worship and passionate, visually driven sermons.

After Giglio graduated from Georgia State University, he earned a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. After finishing seminary, Giglio and his wife Shelley began a weekly Bible study called Choice Ministries at Baylor University. After several years, over ten percent of the student body was attending the weekly study. He is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry at Grace Theological Seminary.

In 1995, the Giglios moved from their home in Waco, Texas to Atlanta, Georgia due to Louie's father's failing health. While flying from Texas to Georgia, Giglio prayed and asked God, what he had in store for his life at this point. He decided to start a national gathering of Christian college students; this evolved into the Passion movement and Passion Conferences. Desiring to reach across denomination and ministry lines, Louie began 7:22, a Bible study designed to reach and impact single adults in the metro Atlanta area. Functioning under the umbrella of the local church, 7:22 unites 3,000 singles weekly for worship and teaching.

The Passion Movement is based on Louie's life verse, Isaiah 26:8 - "Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts" (from the New International Version).

In January 1997, Passion hosted its first conference for college students, which lasted four days in Austin, Texas. Two thousand people attended.. This launched Passion to the public and it has been followed by conferences and tours yearly. The Passion conferences hosted in January 2005 and 2006 drew thousands of college students to Nashville. In 2000, Giglio and others formed Sixsteps Records, a record label for Christian worship artists. Sixsteps' list of signed artists includes David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Charlie Hall, ,Kristian Stanfill and Christy Nockels. It also releases live albums from the Passion conferences.

In 2007, over 22,000 students gathered in Atlanta, GA, where the missions focused on their "Do Something Now" campaign. This raised 1.5 million U.S. dollars for global ministries on six continents. Giglio and the Passion ministry held regional events around the US in late 2007 and early 2008, and then went to the nations of the world in 2008 with the Passion World Tour. Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin also attended Jentezen Franklin's Forward Conference on July 2008.

On May 11, 2008, Chris Tomlin announced that he is leaving his church to start a new church in Atlanta, Georgia with Giglio.

Louie confirmed this rumor on The Passion Podcast on June 27, 2008. Passion City Church held its first service on February 15, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia at The Tabernacle.

Passion Talk/How Great Is Our God w/CDYour life is a miracle, and the creator of the universe knows you by name He’s big enough to breathe out stars, yet intricate enough o fashion together the trillions of cells that make up every fact of who you are. The God who spoke the universe into existence made you, too and knows everything about you. From the smallest molecule to the situation you find yourself in right now, He’s award of your circumstances and intimately acquainted with everything you do. And He cares about you and promises to carry you through. That’s where we find hope in the midst of the darkest places in life. The journey often complicated and painful, filled with confusion and chaos. Yet, the cross of Christ reveals God’s promise to preserve and restore you no matter what the circumstance. He will hold onto you and hold you together, giving strength to those who hope in His unfailing love.

Passion Talk/Hope w/CDLife isn’t easy. We experience problems and setbacks every day. But during the hardest parts of life, when the bottom seems to fall out, where do we turn for peace’ Although God doesn’t offer any easy solutions, He does offer Himself and His cross as an anchor of hope no matter what we face in life. And more than simply enduring suffering, the hope we find in Him allows us to leverage our darkest moments for His fame. When life hurts most, the world listens most intently to our message, allowing us to broadcast through our pain the goodness of the One who loves us the most.

Passion Talk/Fruitcake And Ice Cream w/CDFruitcake and Ice Cream: An Unlikely Collision of Friendship and Grace is the message heard by students around the world on the seventeen-city Passion World Tour. Sometimes the best things in life are those we're not even sure we're looking for at the time, but those we realize we can't live without in the end. That's the story of Ashley, a somewhat typical college senior--loving life, partying hard and trying to balance it all with success in the classroom. Disengaged from God and turned off by most Christians she knew, unexpected events turned Ashley's world upside down and brought a new roommate for her final semester at the University of Florida. Unpolished, and marked by unscripted authenticity, Ashley's personal journal entries provide the backdrop for Fruitcake and Ice Cream, a message that breathes hope for the spiritually searching while providing a massive kick-start for those within the Church who carry the unrivaled story of God's grace and truth in a darkened world.
